Hierarchical Task Analysis
Our first requirement focuses around the main purpose of the product - to be able to find a restaurant given some food item that you have a hankerin' for. Use of this feature needs to be obvious to someone familiar with search engine without any additional instruction. We break the task down as follows:
- Locate Website
- Enter the URL in your browser, or select a bookmark that brings you to the JWYO website
- Find a restaurant that serves the desired item
- Select a type of search - ingredient, keyword or restaurant name
- Enter the search word and start the search
- Browse the results, involving the following optional steps:
- Re-sort the results (see Requirement #5)
- Change the search keywords
- Add constraints on location, price or hours of service
- View restaurant information and print directions
- Select a restaurant and view pictures, description, location
- Press a button that brings up a third party navigation service (for example, Google Maps) with the address of the restaurant
- Print directions.
Our second requirement is that restaurant representatives have a way of modifying their restaurants description and menu entries. Up-to-date information is essential to keeping the customers happy, else JWYO doesn't serve up what they ordered! Restaurant representatives will have access to a special area of JWYO in order to modify & update information.
- Log in to the Restaurant Management section with username and password
- Optionally, change the description, contact information and picture of the restaurant
- Browse for a new picture and upload
- Type in a new description and save
- Add keywords for your restaurant (e.g. Italian, Pub, Attractive Patrons Only)
- Add a menu item
- Enter a name
- Enter a description
- Enter the main ingredients and flavours (e.g. salmon, tomato, lemon, cilantro, grilled)
- Select from a list of food types. If you don't feel anything fits, contact the manager of JWYO.
The third requirement, accessible help, is targetted at people who are not comfortable with experimental manipulation of controls. The main idea is that the help will be task oriented and visual, so that widgets and controls can be clearly identified.
- User selects "How to use JWYO", which is prominently located and very clickable-looking
- An area separate from the main interface (possibly another frame or window) appears
- The user can select from a list of features of JWYO, and be guided step-by-step through the process
The fourth requirement, user profiles, are intended for people who want to use JWYO on a regular basis and have developed habits and preferences. Use of this feature is divided into two sections - creating an account and using the account to save preferred information.
- Create an account
- User clicks the Registration button
- User enters name, email address, optionally their location, and a password.
- User agrees to terms of service, privacy policy, any other legal stuff
- User recieves confirmation in an email, with pointers to instructions for using the extended features of JWYO
- Log in
- User enters their name and password in the Login area. System acknowledges that they are recognized
- User now has access to the information in their profile - saved restaurants, saved searches, and user reviews.
The fifth requirement concerns browsing and refinement of a search. With a large number of restaurants and possible menu items, it is possible that a search will return too many items for a user to comfortably browse through. After starting a basic search, the user will be able to add constraints to narrow the selection down.
- Start a basic search, as in requirement #1.
- Add a constraint on price, distance, or an additional keyword, and then re-generate the list
- Click on the column headers to re-sort the information by price, restaurant, serving name, or user rating
- Select an item and continue as in step 3 of Requirement 1.
