And the selection of the questions asked is mostly General Sense 101. This is suppose to be 300 level course where there should not be room for asking how does modulo work. what are the boundaries of integer. etc. or further more where can i download SML? a question is inappropriate until I hear it. I can and have tried to answer inappropriate questions after the class. I don't have a very good memory so I can't remember whether people asked any of the questions you mentioned. The best way to ensure that the level of questions stays high is to ask interesting questions yourself. I realize that this is 300 level course but I also have to pace things based on my estimation of the real level of the class. Try to do your best to finish before the deadline. Make

to be reasonable if a lot of people end up submitting late
but I believe you had more than enough time for this assignment
so the deadline stays fixed.

There's really no good way to teach a language, which is especially true of functional ones. And what's the alternative? To learn it off of powerpoint slides? I will try to fix the code whenever I find a 5-10 minutes break from preparing your next assignment, midterm and trying to do some research. I didn't expect people would be sending html tags but you never know. :-)

Regarding grading it will be done in 10 points with half points
(for example 4.5/10.0 is a valid grade).

Although I can not enforce anything on this page I would appreciate if the conversation stayed at a more polite level and you provided more constructive criticism. In any large class like CSC330 it is impossible to satisfy everyone. It is easy to make very hard assignments however having most people fail won't help anyone learn including the good students. It would be easier for me to switch to Powerpoint but I think it's better to actually show working code. You can definitely learn SML, Haskell, Scheme, Ada, C, C++, lambda calculus and denotational semantics on your own and that's what you are supposed to do. All I can provide is guidance and answering questions. The only way to learn Programming Languages is by extensive programming and you have to do that on your own.

If you are not challenged enough by the assignments and the extra credit feel free to contact me. I have plenty of interesting and challenging projects and I am sure I can find something that you will really like and will be useful. However I can not force the whole class to the level of the best students.
