Assignment 1. Grades, comments and statistics
In general, you did ok in the midterm. As you can see from the
histogram the
bulk of the class is around 5-7/15. Two students got 15/15 and a couple
more got pretty close. In general if your grade is from 10-15 you are
in good
shape, 5-10 you are ok but if you are thinking about graduate school
and want high GPA you should put more effort into the course. If your
grade
is 0-5 you should definitely start working harder on the course.
(there are
a few extra zeroes from people that didn't show up for the exam for
various reasons). Remember the total percentage of your final
grade so far (assn 1,2 + midterm) is 40% so there is still time to
catch up.
A lot of the midterm questions were related to topics covered in
lectures
in more detail than the book or notes. I am sure that the students who
attend regularly the lectures probably did better on the exam. There
were a lot of new faces today. If you are one of them and your grade
is low please attend lectures. If you need to catch up contact me
by email and I can try to help out.
If you would like to dispute your grade, you are welcome to do so
by sending me an email. The graders are human and make errors so I will
try to be as fair as possible. However, if you do so there
is a chance that I will discover more mistakes and your grade might be
lowered. Also please do so after the reading break.
